Group Warm-up and Studies Class (orchestral excerpts, studies, exercises, articulation, tone) with Trevor Wye

2:30pm-6pm     Afternoon session
Sonata class with Mary Jo Gothmann and flute/piano Repertoire Class with Mr. Wye and Ms. Gothmann

Saturday, June 30

9am-12:30pm   Morning session (Warm-Up and Studies Class)

2pm-4pm          Student Concert rehearsals

5pm-7pm          Student Concert

7:30pm             Dinner/Party


Application Procedure

Performers will be chosen by taped audition. Anyone may audit the class. Please print application form or send a request to Carla Beauchamp.  Return the application form along with a $50 non-refundable application/processing fee (will be applied to balance if accepted), and a 10 minute recorded audition with repertoire of your choice. Auditor applicants need not submit a recording.  Application deadline April 21, 2007.


Attendance Options

1)  Performer - 16 spots available.  Performers play in one Repertoire Class for Trevor Wye and in one Sonata Class for Mary Jo Gothmann in addition to the Group Warm-Up and Studies Classes.

2)  Auditor - unlimited availability.  Auditors may play during the Group Warm-Up classes if they wish


Food and Lodging

A block of 24 single dorm rooms (six 4-bedroom apartment units) has been reserved and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you choose not to stay on campus, or if the dorm rooms are already taken, your tuition will be adjusted accordingly. Since dorm space is limited, it is advisable to apply early.

All-you-can-eat meals may be purchased separately in the UNM student dining hall for a reasonable price, or you may dine at any of the numerous and varied restaurants in the area. You may also prepare your own food in the dorms in the full kitchen provided in each apartment unit. All full-time attendees may use the athletic facilities at the university for a nominal fee..


Tuition

Performer: $550 + $250/room (food not included)= $800**



Auditor:

Entire Session:  $325 + $250/room (food not included)= $575**

Per Day: $60

Per 1/2 Day: $30

**One half of tuition due upon acceptance.  Balance (less the application fee) due upon arrival.

Special Auditor Tuition Rates for AFA Members

Entire Session:  $250

Per Day: $40

Half Day: $25

Payment Options: The AFA accepts personal checks, cashier’s checks and money orders. We do not accept credit cards at this time. 


Repertoire

Morning Sessions:

1.  Group Warm-up: Includes tone (simple tunes in all keys) and technical work (scales, arpeggios and patterns), improvisation and learning by ear. Auditors may play in this portion of the class if they wish. 

2.  Studies Class: Moyse 24/25 Little Melodious Studies, Andersen Op. 15, Trevor Wye Practice Books. and

Orchestral Repertoire: L’ApresMidi, Daphnis, William Tell, any Rossini overture, Mendelssohn Scherzo, Peter and the Wolf, Voliere, Brahms 4, Schubert Symphonies, etc. From the Orchestral flute Practice Book, volume 1 (Novello).

Afternoon Sessions:

1.  Sonata Class with Mary Jo Gothmann:

Choose any well-known piece with a big piano part, such as Reinecke, Prokofiev, Martinu, Bach b minor, Widor, Poulenc, etc.  

2.  Flute/Piano Repertoire Class with Wye and Gothmann:

Choose any well known repertoire for flute and piano. The pieces chosen should be of interest to the entire class. Solo pieces are also welcome. Please include Syrinx and the CPE Bach Solo Sonata.

If you’d like to learn a new piece, consider the following options: Paggi: Rimembranze Napolitane (Zimmerman), CPE Bach, Sonata in E major (Zimmerman), and Muthel: Sonata in D major, from German Baroque Sonatas, (UE).
