TREVOR WYE 2008 CLASS HAS MOVED TO WEST VIRGINIA!

   Trevor Wye will be doing a week-long course in Morgantown, West Virginia from June 21-28, 2008.  This is the same course that he has been teaching in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the AFA for the past six years, and includes challenging and fun group warm-up sessions (scales, arpeggios, inventive melodic & harmonic patterns, playing by ear, and improvisation), Studies classes (tone development, technique, phrasing, etudes, excerpts, Moyse melodies), and both Sonata classes and Repertoire classes.  The week ends with a student concert of ensembles and solos (and a really fun party).

  Trevor will be joined once again by the fabulous pianist Mary Jo Gothmann (formerly of The Met and the Santa Fe Opera), who teaches the Sonata classes, and Laura Dwyer, principal flute of the Sarasota Opera & certified yoga instructor.  Laura has developed a program called "Yoga for Flutists" which addresses both the general issues that all performing artists deal with, and also the very specific physical and emotional issues that many flutists face.  She is frequently invited to present her program to flute studios around the country.  Francesca Arnone, professor of flute at WV University, will be the teaching assistant for the class.  She will lead a less rigorous morning warm-up for those so inclined, be available for private lessons for both performers and auditors, and run ensembles for interested auditors.

  The course is being co-organized by Francesca Arnone and Carla Beauchamp, with sponsorship from the WVU Flute Club and the WVU Division of Music.  Exhibitors include Carolyn Nussbaum, Altus Flutes and Butterfly Headjoint Co.

   Given the high cost of traveling to the desert southwest, we are hoping that
moving this event to the other side of the country will allow many more of you the opportunity to attend this life-changing class.  By the time you leave the course, you will be able to create your own effective and efficient practice routine that directly addresses your own areas of need, and you'll have more than enough inspiration to see it through –
